Resident: KARL MARTIN KIRM. EXACTITUDES, vol. 2

Friday, July 31, 9 p.m. at Philly Joe's Jazz Club

This summer, Philly Joe’s belongs to its residents! The stage is set for Estonia’s rising young musicians — distinctive bandleaders and artists with a fresh sonic voice, already shaping the future of the local alternative scene.

Each night brings a new focus, sound and line-up, ranging from premieres of new material to one-of-a-kind experiments and late-night jam sessions.

Expect contemporary jazz and everything orbiting around it! All summer long in the heart of Tallinn, at Philly Joe's Jazz Club!

“Exactitudes, vol. 2”

Karl Martin Kirm is an Estonian jazz drummer and composer. He holds a degree from the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre and is currently pursuing a master’s degree at Codarts University in Rotterdam. In his music, Karl values interactive ensemble play and seeks ways to express himself clearly and expressively both as a composer and performer. As a drummer, Kirm is particularly drawn to dynamically restrained and atmospheric soundscapes, which give his playing a soft tonal quality and highlight his sensitivity towards fellow musicians. He also places great importance on the language of traditional jazz and the legacy of the great masters of the 20th century.

For the third concert of his summer residency, Karl Martin Kirm reshapes the ensemble and injects fresh energy into his original compositions — swapping acoustic instruments for electric and bass guitar. Rooted in traditional straight-ahead jazz yet open to contemporary influences, his music weaves deceptively simple melodies through rich harmonies, building a vivid sonic landscape that always leaves room for spontaneous expression.

Line-up:
Aleksander Paal - saxophone
Marcus Tuul - guitar
Robert Rebane - bass guitar
Karl Martin Kirm - drums
