“Tribute to Michael Brecker”
Karl Martin Kirm is an Estonian jazz drummer and composer. He holds a degree from the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre and is currently pursuing a master’s degree at Codarts University in Rotterdam. In his music, Karl values interactive ensemble play and seeks ways to express himself clearly and expressively both as a composer and performer. As a drummer, Kirm is particularly drawn to dynamically restrained and atmospheric soundscapes, which give his playing a soft tonal quality and highlight his sensitivity towards fellow musicians. He also places great importance on the language of traditional jazz and the legacy of the great masters of the 20th century.
For the final concert of his residency, Karl Martin Kirm pays tribute to the legendary saxophonist Michael Brecker. The programme draws from the albums “Tales From The Hudson” and “Time Is of the Essence” — records that have profoundly shaped Kirm as both a composer and a drummer. Defined by extraordinary energy and a seamless blending of sounds into a single, breathtaking whole, these albums set a high bar. Kirm's quintet brings that spirit to the stage in their own way.

Mikk Kaasik - piano
Lota-Loviisa Rohtla - double bass
