“Exactitudes”
Karl Martin Kirm is an Estonian jazz drummer and composer. He holds a degree from the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre and is currently pursuing a master’s degree at Codarts University in Rotterdam. In his music, Karl values interactive ensemble play and seeks ways to express himself clearly and expressively both as a composer and performer. As a drummer, Kirm is particularly drawn to dynamically restrained and atmospheric soundscapes, which give his playing a soft tonal quality and highlight his sensitivity towards fellow musicians. He also places great importance on the language of traditional jazz and the legacy of the great masters of the 20th century.
At his second residency concert, Karl Martin Kirm presents a programme featuring both recent and more mature original compositions. The music is rooted in traditional straight-ahead jazz while remaining open to contemporary influences. It weaves deceptively simple melodies through rich harmonies, building a vivid sonic landscape that always leaves room for spontaneous expression.
Line-up:
Allan Kaljaste - saxophone
Mikk Kaasik - piano
Lota-Loviisa Rohtla - double bass
Karl Martin Kirm - drums
