Chamber Music series • ERSO kontserdisarjad 2024/2025
The concerts of the Chamber Music series will take place on four Saturdays in the Great Hall of the Tallinn School of Music and Ballet (MUBA). The world-class performers who took the stage as soloists in front of the orchestra on Friday will perform there in chamber ensembles with the musicians of the ERSO.
The first concert in the series will take place in October with pianist Alexander Melnikov. Melnikov, who is known for his frequent unusual decisions regarding musical choices and playlists, is characterised by his fascination with historically informed performance practices. He is also an active chamber musician, whose long-term stage partner is violinist Isabelle Faust, who is also going to solo with ERSO this season. He also plays regularly with cellist Jean-Guihen Queyras and violinist Antoine Tamestit.
In February, clarinettist Sérgio Pires will perform with the ensembles of ERSO. He is the principal clarinet of the London Symphony Orchestra, as well as an active soloist and chamber musician. He has been accompanied by, among others, oboist Heinz Holliger and flutist Emmanuel Pahud, who are considered among the all-time greats of wind music.
In March, MUBA will host pianist William Youn, who has been described by critics as a poet at the piano whose musical brilliance allows him to discover the soulful depths of music. His Schubert recordings are particularly highly praised, but in addition to those, he has also recorded all of Mozart’s piano sonatas. Youn also plays regularly in a chamber ensemble with violinist Nils Mönkemeyer and clarinettist Sabine Meyer.
The series will conclude with Ukrainian-born pianist Alexander Gavrylyuk, a highly acclaimed virtuoso who is a resident artist for the 2023/24 season at the prestigious chamber music venue Wigmore Hall in London. His performance is both poetic and electrifying. Together with his band partner, violinist Janine Jansen, she performs regularly all over Europe.
