RESIDENT: KALEV KARLSON TRIO. JAZZ STANDARDS - JOINT RESIDENCY CONCERT!
Friday, 27 June 9 p.m. at Philly Joe's Jazz Club
The Philly Joe’s Summer Residency programme provides a platform for talented young Estonian artists on the jazz scene! New ensembles, colourful programs and the opportunity to hear jazz and music with its influences from a new perspective on every concert evening - all this is offered by selected artists, week after week throughout the summer.
June’s resident is guitarist Kalev Karlson, whose concerts will take place on Wednesdays in June and during Midsummer week on Friday, June 27.
“Jazz Standards”
For the last concert night of June, our two residents Kalev Karlson and Nikita Korzoun have joined forces. The duo will also introduce and lean on the support of July's resident Lota-Loviisa Rohtla on bass. The ensemble performs the well-known American Songbook repertoire, seeking beautiful improvisational melodies and sensitive musicianship.
Kalev Karlson is an Estonian jazz guitarist recognized for his unique style and diverse musical influences, ranging from European jazz to North American traditions. He graduated from the Utrecht Conservatory in the Netherlands and has performed with several renowned jazz musicians, including Lembit Saarsalu Quintet, Hedvig Hanson, Helin-Mari Arder, Raivo Tafenau, Siim Aimla, Aleksander Paal and Nikita Korzoun. Kalev has released three albums so far: ambient album “Pedal Stories” (2019), duo album “Duets” (2021) in collaboration with guitarist Jaan Jaanson and solo guitar album “Dream a Little Dream” (2023).
