Experimental musician and bassist-vocalist from Memphis, Dywane Thomas Jr. aka MonoNeon became famous with his distinctive covers of the tunes by J. Dilla, Thelonious Monk and other great masters. In addition to winning millions of hearts in the cyberspace, MonoNeon has also received the Grammy Award for his appearance on Nas’ album King’s Disease. He was the last bass guitarist for the late legend Prince, with whom they released the single RUFF ENUFF. MonoNeon’s music is eccentric, virtuosic and free of limitations.
MonoNeon’s playing style is heavily influenced by funk, Southern soul and blues. His unique playing has been praised by numerous bass legends, including Marcus Miller and Flea. The latter considers MonoNeon one of the best bass guitarists in the world. He has collaborated with artists such as Mavis Staples, George Clinton, Mac Miller, Georgia Anne Muldrow, Ghost-Note among others.
MonoNeon’s concerts are full of energy and groove. The funk locomotive that sets the audience in motion with a solid beat. Creating a laid-back and life-affirming atmosphere, the masterful musicians make sure the audience feels at home and the party gets going. Together they have toured the Newport Jazz Festival, the Montreal Jazz Festival and the Melbourne International Jazz Festival. Next stop: Jazzkaar!
