Distinguished Estonian composer and saxophonist Maria Faust and Danish drummer Kresten Osgood, a true living legend in the local music scene, are coming to Jazzkaar to present music from their newly formed duo for the first time in Estonia. While Osgood has been said to have changed the history of Scandinavian jazz, Faust’s bold creative style is credited with altering the course of Estonian jazz history. Together, they have the potential to soar to the fifth dimension!

Internationally renowned saxophonist and composer Maria Faust’s musical projects, including Sacrum Facere, Machina, Jazz Catastrophe and MOnuMENT, have won numerous awards both in Estonia and around the world. She has composed music for various ensembles, including large collectives such as the Danish Radio Big Band, Tallinn Chamber Orchestra and Collegium Musicale. In 2023, a sincere and profound documentary film about Maria titled Machina Faust was released, directed by Kaupo Kruusiauk. The film, which portrays Maria’s life as a musician, woman and a person, has won several awards and sparked intense discussion about what it means to be a female creator.

Kresten Osgood is among the top musicians in the jazz world. He has participated in over 100 albums, toured worldwide and performed with legends such as Roscoe Mitchell, Paul Bley, William Parker, Joe Lovano, Lee Scratch Perry and Justin Vernon (Bon Iver). In addition to his virtuosic drumming, Kresten is a successful rapper, vocalist, pianist, composer, saxophonist and trumpeter.
