Live●REC at Philly Joe's: NIKITA KORZOUN QUARTET

Thursday, March 6, 8 p.m. at Philly Joe's Jazz Club

Live ●REC at Philly Joe’s brings an exciting live concert recording to the audience, where only a small room full of people can experience this unique on-site moment with jazz musicians - “that’s a wrap!”

This time, the experience is brought to you by the Nikita Korzoun Quartet, which consists of musicians who have already proven themselves in the jazz scene. The members of the quartet are, above all, friends and mentors for Nikita, from whom he still receives good ideas and a large part of the motivation to convey his music to the audience. The members of the collective met while studying at the Sibelius Academy in Finland. The mix of sounds from Estonian and Finnish jazz traditions bring listeners a fresh sound and leave them snapping their fingers as they should!

“If there is one young musician from Estonia that I see making an important contribution to the art form of jazz today, it is Mr. Nikita Korzoun.“ – Holger Marjama, pianist and composer

“Nikita Korzoun has stood out for years with extraordinary thoroughness and diligence, which can only be rivaled by his love for the jazz tradition! The proof of this is at the very least the Philly Joe’s MVP award in the saxophone category!” – Reigo Ahven, musician, founder of Philly Joe’s, Fairmus CEO

“Nikita Korzoun is one of the most exciting musicians of the younger generation in our jazz world, who upholds the jazz tradition. Jazz is his calling and it is with great interest to watch how his musical life continues.” – Ivo Heinloo, jazz critic (Klassikaraadio)

Korzoun tries to bring back traditional jazz with his playing, adding modern knowledge and skills. Among the artists he is most inspired are Cannonball Adderley, Kenny Garrett, Michael Brecker and McCoy Tyner. He has performed at various festivals, including the international festival Visioon, Tudengijazz, Jazz Time, Jazzkaar, Jazz Across Borders and others. The young saxophonist has achieved good results in several competitions, including the Round Table competition and the Uno Naissoo composition contest. In 2023, Korzoun was nominated for the Estonian Jazz Awards in the Young Jazz Talent category. Korzoun has shared the stage with Dave Liebman, Jukkis Uotila, Aaron Goldberg, Anders Jormin, Tim Hagans and many others. He has also collaborated with many top figures in the Estonian jazz scene, including Holger Marjamaa, Aleksander Paal, Siim Aimla, Ara Yaralyan, Janno Trump, Ramuel Tafenau, Raul Sööt, Sofia Rubina, Jason Hunter, Jaan Jaanson, Tõnu Naissoo and larger ensembles such as the New Wind Jazz Orchestra, Estonian Dream Big Band and the Tallinn Police Orchestra.
