Epifolium caterva’s "Setomaa värvid" album release concert
Thursday, January 29, 8 p.m. at Philly Joe's Jazz Club
The creative collective Epifolium caterva is led by pianist Kaisa Kuslapuu and Canadian-Estonian composer Iisak Sulev Andeller who resides in Setomaa. Together, they breathe new life into Seto folk songs through their inventive and original interpretations. Familiar traditions and playing practices are viewed through the common prism of film music, jazz, electronic music and acoustic folk, creating a captivating instrumental collage. The result is a soundscape that is both peaceful and surprising, comfortable and challenging.
The recently released collection “Setomaa värvid” features, in addition to Iisak’s bass and Kaisa’s boldly inventive piano playing, Helin Pihlap’s classical violin tones, Mart Adermann’s tender guitar playing and Oskar Nursi’s youthful jazzy rhythms on the drums.
Line-up:
Iisak Sulev Andreller - bass guitar, electric guitar
Kaisa Kuslapuu - piano, keyboards
Helin Pihlap - violin
Mart Adermann - acoustic guitar
Oskar Nursi - drums, percussion
