KARL TAMMARU'S SOLO ALBUM "BASJANSS" RELEASE CONCERT

Saturday,  October 11, 8 p.m. at Philly Joe's Jazz Club

Karl Tammaru's solo music is airy and atmospheric, but also an exciting journey through a maze of bright and dark sound colors and dynamic changes. His music encompasses both calm progression and bold experimentation, and their alternation directly represents coping as a human being in the world we live in.

At the end of May, Karl's solo bass guitar album "basjanss" was released, which is a rare phenomenon in the world context and the first of its kind known in the Estonian music scene. The album consists of bass guitar compositions and improvisations recorded in January 2025 in a studio in Tallinn's Old Town over three days. The limited nature of this instrument and the possibilities for presenting it in a solo context make an open, "outside the box" mindset essential. Karl's approach is based on a unique approach to the bass guitar, and one of his goals is to find new ways of self-expression on this instrument, giving honor and highlighting the sound of all its glory.

His goal is to tell a story and show a new exciting world that the listener can define based on their own personal feelings. The soundscape created can be compared to film music by its nature, Karl takes the listener with him on a journey to jointly discover new areas in music.

Karl Tammaru is an active and versatile musician in both the Estonian jazz and alternative music scenes. His main projects are the bass guitar and vocal duo TamTam, the alt-rock band Vesi Päästab, the jazz-rock ensemble Allianss and the Karl Tammaru Trio, which cultivates Nordic jazz. In addition, he expresses his artistic vision in the ensembles Kenors, Anna Lea Haamer Quintet, Johannes Laas 5tet, M-Group, etc.
