Sol y Sombra Quartet • Jazzkaar 2026
Having taken the next logical step from Saaremaa all the way to Brazil, Pille-Rite Rei has assembled a brand-new ensemble, Sol y Sombra. Their music transports us to the foaming shores of the Atlantic, with the hot sands of Ipanema Beach burning underfoot. This fresh lineup – also featuring Kaspar Uljas, Martin-Eero Kõressaar, and Andre Maaker – will perform Argentine tangos and zambas alongside Brazilian choros at their Jazzkaar concert. What is a zamba? What is a choro? Come to Fotografiska and find out. Your musical vitamin boost awaits!
Pille-Rite Rei graduated in composition from the Malmö Academy of Music in Sweden. During her studies, she spent a year in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where she further developed her skills in singing and composition. She has since returned for extended periods, collaborating with local musicians including Roberto Menescal and Marcio Villa Bahia. Carrying the Brazilian sun and a sense of lightness wherever she goes, Rei reflects this spirit clearly in her music. In Estonia, she often performs together with Andre Maaker. Pille-Rite has studied both piano and recorder, but her true passion is the saxophone.
Sun, beach, zambas, and choros – let yourself drift into the warmth!
