Jazzkaar 2023 brings to the listeners the stylish creations of Estonia’s best rappers, which are given a special expressive force on stage by Raivo Tafenau’s live jazz band. Tafenau has mixed different music genres in his eponymous jazz club before too, always looking for points of contact between different styles, trying to build bridges, not separating walls. Once again, it’s time to bring rap and jazz together on a common stage, combining verbal art, rhythm, melodies and improvisation into a unique whole.
Dazzling jazz musicians will be taking the stage with superb verbal performers, including the most unique Estonian rap artists with enviable wordsmithing skills, reket, villemdrillem and nublu, accompanied by DJ Lauri Täht. Modern poetry alternates with various grooves and rhythmic mazes. Of course, you can never be sure what transpires from this collaboration, because rap’n’jazz is a big challenge for all parties – both the musicians on stage and the listeners in the audience. However, you can always expect awesome things to happen at Jazzkaar.
