Jaska Lukkarinen „One For Joe“ (FIN)
JASKA LUKKARINEN „ONE FOR JOE“
Saturday 17th February, 8 p.m. at Philly Joe's Jazz Club
Drummer Jaska Lukkarinen's new solo project One For Joe is a tribute to jazz drummer Philly Joe Jones, who is best known as the drummer of the Miles Davis Quintet from 1955 to 1958. The One For Joe concert mainly features music recorded by Jones for other artists, such as Freddie Hubbard, Donald Byrd and J.R. Montrose, in the years 1956-1961. The songs performed contain inspiring melodic and rhythmic elements that build a bridge from the 1950s to today.
Musically, One For Joe is unique on the Finnish jazz scene precisely because of Lukkarinen's knowledge of Philly Joe Jones and the material presented. The concert offers unstoppable swing, energetic accompaniment and imaginative soloism, as well as ensemble playing inspired by the 1950s. In addition, there will be stories and anecdotes from the career of Philly Joe Jones.
The band consists of the leading members of the Finnish jazz scene.
