Greta Ruben Quartet "Northern Longing" (EE/SE/FI)
Friday, January 9, 8 p.m. at Philly Joe's Jazz Club
Greta Ruben is a young jazz violinist, singer and composer who is currently studying at the Malmö Academy of Music in Sweden. Her goal is to create a place for the violin in the Estonian jazz music scene. In her work, Greta combines jazz, pop and folk music creating a gentle, mellow and dreamy sound.
Greta Ruben Quartet presents the audience with new works that were completed while studying and living in Sweden. Most of them are instrumental pieces, but in some songs you can also hear Greta singing. In addition to Greta's work, you can hear work from her bandmates. The main emphasis is on soft-sounding, melodic Nordic jazz music.
The band's core is the violin with its soft and gentle sound, accompanied by a classic jazz trio. The musicians come from Estonia, Finland and Sweden and are united by their love for Nordic jazz and The Malmö Academy of Music.
