TABLAO - FLAMENCO DE NORTE A SUR

Friday,  August 22, 9 p.m. at Philly Joe's Jazz Club

¡TABLAO! is flamenco in its most authentic improvisational and spontaneous form. It is a concept where any ensemble of musicians and dancers can meet in one evening and present the audience with a mix of complex rhythms, beautiful melodies and captivating dance from distant Andalusia. The special guests of the August 22nd concert will be the wonderful Spanish artists Pablo Egea and Monica Clavijo!

Pablo Egea is a flamenco dancer, choreographer and Spanish dance teacher from Murcia who has performed as a soloist with the Spanish National Ballet and the Andalusian Flamenco Ballet. He has collaborated with renowned choreographers such as Javier Latorre and has been a guest artist with troupes in America and Europe. He has won several awards, including the Lukas Award (Latin UK Awards, 2019) and first prizes in national flamenco competitions: the Antonio Ruiz Soler Memorial Competition organized by the Peña Torres Macarena in Seville in 2021 and the Ubrique National Flamenco Dance Competition in 2022. As a flamenco dancer, he has performed in legendary tablaos, including Cordobés (Barcelona), Café Ziryab (Madrid), as well as Los Gallos, Casa del Flamenco and Teatro Flamenco Triana in Seville. As a choreographer, he has created both international productions and personal projects in which he explores the connections between flamenco and folk tradition.

Mónica Clavijo is a flamenco singer from San José del Valle whose artistic journey began at an early age. Her father, flamenco singer Chiriva del Valle, was an early role model for her and introduced her to the world of flamenco. Mónica studied at the Fundación Cristina Heeren de Arte Flamenco school in Seville and has trained under various masters. She is characterized by a deep-rooted flamenco feeling, a unique voice and a passion for reviving forgotten flamenco styles. Mónica Clavijo has performed on many international stages, including in Vienna, Warsaw, Prague, Krakow, Budapest, Brno, Sardinia and Spain.

Ingrid Mugu ,,La Filigrana’’ is an Estonian flamenco dancer and choreographer who lives in Seville, Spain. There she studied at the Fundación Cristina Heeren de Arte Flamenco school and is the first Estonian to work as an artist in the Sevilla Tablaos. She is the creator and performer of the flamenco play ,,Soledad’’, which was nominated for the Estonian Theatre Awards. She has been a headliner at the Tampere Flamenco Festival and in flamenco tablaos in Warsaw, Vienna, Helsinki, Malmö and elsewhere.

Tony de María is one of the most respected flamenco guitarists in Finland and Northern Europe. His journey on the flamenco guitar began in the 90s in Finland, and he soon moved to Andalusia, the birthplace of flamenco, to further his knowledge. In addition to accompanying flamenco dance and singing, Tony de María also creates his own music and interprets the compositions of flamenco masters, working constantly in Finland, Estonia and Latvia.
