Nikolai Olshansky Quartet · Contriber & Philly Joe's TARTU
Nikolai Olshansky is a double bassist and composer, a graduate of the prestigious Jazzcampus in Basel, where he studied under the legendary double bassist and professor Larry Grenadier. He is currently based in Germany.
His music combines strong melodicism with rhythmic vitality. Nikolai’s compositions are characterized by a diversity of forms and a cinematic sound world that creates a rich and imaginative musical space for the listener. In his projects, he surrounds himself with musicians who share a similar creative spirit and an open musical mindset.
Nikolai recently released his second album, which he is currently touring internationally. At the concert, he will perform music from the new album as well as compositions from recent years.
At the concert, Nikolai will appear with an international quartet. Joining him are tenor saxophonist Andrey Polovko, a versatile jazz musician based in Riga whose expressive playing combines influences from both classical and contemporary jazz; Viktors Ritovs, one of Latvia’s outstanding jazz pianists, a composer and arranger known for his sensitive phrasing and creative improvisation; and Kaspars Kurdeko, an internationally active drummer and composer who studied at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and has performed at festivals around the world.
Together they create a dynamic and open soundscape where melodic storytelling, rhythmic energy, and the improvisational freedom of contemporary jazz meet.
