Some Times • Jazzkaar 2026

Some Times is a collaboration project by two young musicians, Marten Männa and Mikk Kaasik, formed in 2025 out of a desire to write music for the Uno Naissoo Composition Competition – which the duo duly won with their piece Oddly Even. The musical chemistry between the two is so strong that, in a short time, they created a full concert programme of fresh material, which they now bring to Jazzkaar. Their music draws inspiration from jazz fusion and funk, shaped by the influence of bands such as Snarky Puppy, Sungazer, Dirty Loops, and Knower.

Marten Männa is a drummer and multi-instrumentalist described as an energetic, creative rhythm master with an attentive ear and a steady hand. In autumn 2024, he won the prestigious Round Table competition. A rapidly rising jazz artist, Männa truly deserves our attention – and the ensemble Some Times is living proof of that.

Mikk Kaasik is a jazz pianist who released his debut album, Take One, in the summer of 2024. The instrumental album blends jazz, fusion, and funk, reflecting the young musician’s boundless energy and curiosity. Among Kaasik’s achievements are winning the Uno Naissoo Composition Competition with his piece Rapid Resonance and receiving the Young Jazz Talent Award at the Estonian Jazz Awards 2025.
