"An Anthology of Contemporary Solo Guitar" album release concert (LVA-FIN-EST)
Thursday, March 20, 8 p.m. at Philly Joe's Jazz Club
The album presentation concert brings three guitarists from three countries to the Philly Joe's stage, who play acoustic guitar music based on modern traditions.
Edgars Rubenis is a Latvian composer whose acoustic guitar work engages with the early traditions of blues and ragtime resulting in bold and contemporary music. Containing 8 exciting instrumentals, Sea Unbound is his most recent record, the second from the upcoming trilogy Pains and Boogies. Since his 2020 shift to working with acoustic guitar, Rubenis’ music has been featured on London's Resonance FM radio, in concerts along with the Welsh guitarist Gwenifer Raymond, Kadonnut Manner from Finland, and on various festivals and tours in the UK, France, Sweden, Belgium, The Netherlands and the Baltics.
Lauri Manner started out in the 90's playing bass in various Finnish underground punk and rock bands. He started his autodidactic journeys in fingerpicking acoustic guitar in 2015 after obsessively listening to John Fahey records for
years. Manner found solace and meaning from doing that and made his debut recording as Kadonnut Manner with The Lost Continent in 2017, and now has 4 albums of his own compositions published. Lauri currently resides on the Polar Circle in Rovaniemi, Finland together with his partner Laura and intends to keep on making music and touring no matter how bad the state of the world gets.
Kalle Tikas has been on his musical journey since the beginning of the 1990's playing blues and prog rock. In the 2000's he got involved in various free improv collaborations, also composing music for contemporary theatre performances. 2015 marked the beginning of his journey into the avant blues world – together with avant-garde singer Eleonora Kampe they formed a duo called Ringhold and presented a new and independent way of playing electric blues. Painted Storm, the track contributed to the new compilation is Kalle's first work on acoustic guitar.
