Inger Nordvik (NOR)
INGER NORDVIK
Thursday, August 22, 9 p.m. at Philly Joe's Jazz Club
After playing at Tallinn Music Week last year, Norwegian artist Inger Nordvik is coming back to Philly Joe’s for an acoustic evening with the brilliant jazz guitarist and improviser, Torstein Slåen.
"It is rare to hear debut albums of such artistic maturity and that are so convincing" stated Germany’s most influential radio station Deutschlandfunk, as Inger Nordvik released her debut album Time in 2020. The Norwegian singer and pianist delicately combined her classical background with jazz, folk and contemporary art pop, in a tradition that made several reviewers draw on names like Kate Bush and Joni Mitchell for comparison.
She wrote, arranged, and produced the album herself. It was therefore no coincidence when she was listed one of the "eleven most hopeful newcomers of 2020" (Zitty and Tip Berlin).
Last year Inger followed up with her second full-length “Hibernation”, written and composed in a cabin by the sea in Northern Norway during the pandemics. The album features a rich production and elaborates on her signature chamber pop sound of piano and vocals. Inspired by the organic sounds of the 60s and 70s she creates her very own style, in which her captivating voice serves as the very foundation.
"A beautiful body of work (...) Inger Nordvik captures the moment and infuses it into sound in the most special way" Clash Magazine
“The songs, which are skillfully crafted, sound like a real treat. Think of Kate Bush without the excessive energy, or Joni Mitchell with a little less jazz” Rolling Stone
Line-up:
Inger Nordvik – piano/vocals
Torstein Slåen - guitars
