Jazz Composer of the Year 2025 Bianca Rantala’s new work, Gigil Marathon, has been composed especially for the UMO Helsinki Jazz Orchestra and harpejji virtuoso Valter Soosalu. The concert programme combines a contemporary big band aesthetic with multi-layered fusion harmonies and rhythmic innovation. The harpejji plays a multifaceted role – at times a solo instrument, at others an accompaniment, and occasionally an integral part of the orchestra’s overall texture. UMO’s world-class instrumentalists also play a central role, and Rantala skillfully brings out both their individual and collective strengths. The result is a unique, memorable, and richly varied whole.

Prior to the concert, the Estonian Jazz Awards 2026 will be presented in cooperation with Jazz Estonia and Jazzkaar.
