Michelle David & The True-tones perform gospel in a way that can touch even confirmed atheists. Their unique combination of gospel, soul, blues, jazz and afrobeat makes their every show a true musical delight.
American singer with a powerful voice and captivating energy, Michelle David grew up in New York and later took up residence in Amsterdam, where she started the band The Gospel Sessions, that has since been re-christened The True-tones. What started as a project to discover the birthplace of Soul and R&B resulted in four gospel-flavoured albums, a Christmas album and their most recent addition, Truth & Soul released in 2022, which also garnished an Edison nomination (The Dutch Grammy). The band has successfully embraced various influences stretching from traditional gospel to afrobeat, soul to calypso and Moroccan Gnawa. With their latest album they expand their musical horizon even more, including indie soul mixed with Brazilian flavours. However, the substance of music remains the same – the desire to bring people the true message of love, unity and togetherness.
