III: PAAVO JÄRVI AND MISSA SOLEMNIS • ERSO 100 CONCERT SERIES
PROGRAMME
Ludwig van Beethoven
Missa solemnis in D major, Op. 123
PERFORMERS
Soloists, ESTONIAN PHILHARMONIC CHAMBER CHOIR, ERSO, conductor PAAVO JÄRVI
ERSO’s Artistic Advisor Paavo Järvi celebrates the orchestra’s anniversary season with a performance of Ludwig van Beethoven’s monumental work Missa solemnis. “From the heart – may it go to the heart.” Beethoven wrote on the title page, affirming music’s noble mission to unite people. Considered by the composer himself to be his life's work, the mass is filled with theatrical contrasts, operatic scale, and breathtakingly beautiful fugues. Missa solemnis is dedicated to the composer's friend and greatest patron, Archduke Rudolf, who was an accomplished musician and a student of Beethoven. International soloists and the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir will join the orchestra on stage.
