Oratorio The Seasons selected movements
PERFORMERS
ESTONIAN PHILHARMONIC CHAMBER CHOIR, ERSO, conductor OLARI ELTS
The final “Symphonic Lunch” of ERSO’s anniversary season, conducted by Olari Elts, presents music from Joseph Haydn’s oratorio The Seasons. Created in the spirit of the Enlightenment, the work is a hymn to the harmony between man and nature. Haydn paints vivid musical pictures of nature, describing folk festivals and the brighter side of daily life. The wise Haydn saw the changing seasons as a parallel to the human life cycle: spring symbolizes birth, summer youth, autumn maturity, and winter old age, followed by eternal life. The performance features brilliant soloists and the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir.
The concert is without intermission and lasts one hour.
