Symphony No. 2 D major, Op. 73
PERFORMERS
ERSO, conductor ANDREW MANZE
British conductor and violinist Andrew Manze is highly acclaimed as an interpreter of both early music and the Romantic repertoire. For the opening piece, he has selected Ralph Vaughan Williams’ atmospheric tone poem Serenade to Music. This is followed by the Estonian premiere of the Symphony No. 8 by London-based Estonian composer Mihkel Kerem, a work Manze has previously recorded with the Liverpool Philharmonic. The second half of the program features Johannes Brahms’ pastorally idyllic Symphony No. 2, rich with charming folk songs, dance motifs, and a nod to his famous Lullaby in the first movement.
