For about a decade, Funk Embassy has been engaged in underground diplomacy and the sending of public notes. We’ve brought the funk and soul category to the Estonian Music Awards; taken bands to the BBC airwaves as well as to a basement bar in Latvia where fees go unpaid. The behind-the-scenes lobbying has been done. We’ve reached a point where a party alone is no longer enough — what’s needed is a full-scale state visit!

EFEFEST, or the Estonian Funk Embassy Festival, welcomes everyone on August 21–22 to the autonomous Paavli Cultural Republic. Across three stages, ambassadors, attachés, and honorary consuls of funk, soul, disco, and world music — both local and international — will take the stage. The lineup of bands, DJs, and the cultural program will be announced soon on a document that must be burned after reading.

🚨 WHAT IS FUNK EMBASSY, ANYWAY?

It is an embassy that has grown from a small dream into an ongoing small movement that somehow transcends borders between countries and people. Since 2016, it has been a soft-power resistance movement against dullness, malice, and bad taste. Instead of coups, we have orchestrated spins on dance floors, launched artists, sparked rebellion on the airwaves, organized grand concerts, and given archival music new wings in the free world.
