Toomemägi is the place where the fortress of the ancient Estonians was built over 1000 years ago. In the Middle Ages the bishop of Tartu resided there. After several wars and other historical cataclysms Toomemägi became one of the most distinctive university campuses in Europe at the beginning of the 19th century with a romantic English-style park.
